Oregon Health Authority reported 404 new COVID-19 cases May 20-26 in Jackson County, for an average of 58 cases a day. One Jackson County resident died of COVID-19-related causes.
For Josephine County, OHA reported 130 new COVID-19 cases May 20-26, for an average of 19 cases a day. No one died of COVID-19-related causes, OHA reported.
Statewide, OHA reported 11,128 new COVID-19 cases, for an average of 1,590 cases daily May 20-26. Oregon cases had been gradually trending up for weeks before plateauing last week.
On Friday, 26 people with the COVID-19 virus were being cared for in Jackson and Josephine county hospitals. Statewide, 299 patients with the virus were hospitalized, according to hospitalization data.
Cases and hospitalization rates aren’t skyrocketing like they did during the winter surge fueled by the omicron variant of the virus, or during the delta surge in late summer and fall 2021.
The company Curative has a testing site in the parking lot of Rogue Valley Mall, 1600 N. Riverside Ave., Medford. The site offers walk-in lab PCR and rapid ID Now testing from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to all people.
Appointments can be made ahead of time online at curative.com. People who don’t register in advance will need to do so on site using their cellphones.
There is no fee to get tested. Curative will bill insurance of people with coverage. Cost for the uninsured is covered by the state of Oregon, the company said.
U.S. residential households can order four free at-home COVID-19 tests at special.usps.com/testkits. The tests are delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. Test results are ready in 15 minutes.
